What's Happening in Religion?

Since Kevin and Josh did such a nice job updating you in Science I thought I would focus on Religion this week!  In Sixth Grade I try to make Religion the first subject every day.  We focus on the Old Testament this year and so we have begun with the Book of Genesis.
The class is studying the 2 Creation stories this week and learning that while they are not scientifically accurate, what is important is that:
  1. Everything in existence is created by God, and He is the source of all life.
  2. Everything that God created is good and depends on Him.
Another important part of our Religion curriculum is our prayer life.  In our class we pray at the beginning of the day with the school, before and after lunch, and again at the end of the day.  This week our class is in charge of preparing the readings for Friday's Mass.  All students will have the privilege of serving as a lector at a school Mass this year.

Service to our community is also part of the Religion curriculum.  This Friday is "Sandwiches for the Needy."  I would like all 6th graders to participate.  They should be able to make an extra sandwich on Thursday night or Friday morning and label it for Martin de Porres House.  It will only take a few minutes, but it is important for them to truly take take an active role in feeding the hungry.   This is part of our call to "Think Like Jesus!"  Also, please remember our schoolwide toiletries drive for our service members serving overseas.  Thanks to those who have already sent in donations!

Have a wonderful week!
