Science:
In science we learned about plate tectonics, sea floor spreading, Earth's lower layers and continental drift.

Continental Drift is the theory that all the continents and other landforms were once joined together. (It is also part of the new Ice Age movie!) Alfred Wegner came up with this theory. He named the super continent "Pangaea" (From the Greek Goddess Gaea and and the Greek God  Pan) Some of his pieces of evidence were that the continents "fit" together and that fossils of a certain plant were found on every continent.

Sea-Floor Spreading is the theory that the ocean floors move like "conveyor belts".  It was proposed by an American geologist named Harry Hess. He explained that molten material rises from the mantle and pushes material previously risen to the side. The older material then sunk into the mantle again. He also said that the North and South Poles reverse every 600,000 years.

Earth's layers:
Mantle, Athenosphere, Crust, Outer core, Inner core, and lithosphere.
