Our week!!!!!!!

        There are new things in the Sixth Grade classroom. On Monday we started our 1st full day of school! On Monday we started our first day of Spanish and Science. On Tuesday we had a "Back to School" assembly. We also painted fish that you will see on the windows at Back to School Night. On Wednesday we started P.E. and finally got our science books. Thursday will be a regular day, and on Friday we have our 1st mass and 1st spelling test. Let us pray for our fellow classmate Blake Owens because he just had surgery on his ankle.

First Week of School

Sixth Grade has been hard at work in this first week of school!  We have worked on Order of Operations and learned new vocabulary in Math, studied how God's reveals Himself to us in Religion, worked with partners to review Waiting for Normal in Literature, started to explore the hemispheres in Geography, and reviewed sentence structure in Grammar.  I told you we've been busy!

I look forward to meeting you all at Back to School Night tomorrow night at 6:30 in the gym!

Welcome Back!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

Welcome to an exciting year in Sixth Grade!  This will be a fun filled, yet demanding, year for the class of 2015!  As Sixth Graders they will have new responsibilities, new privileges, and new challenges throughout the year.
           A Sixth Grader should expect to spend 45-60 minutes on their homework each night.  In addition, they should spend 20- 30 minutes reading each night.  Time will be given each day to fill in their homework planners, and I encourage them to ask questions and clarify assignments at that time.  I expect homework to be turned in on the day it is due.  If homework is not handed in the student will fill out and sign a yellow “Missing Homework” form.  This will be signed by the student, the teacher, and then signed by the parent that evening and returned the following day.  In addition, this year the student will also receive detention for missing assignments.
           Vocabulary is a new subject for our Sixth Graders.  Each week they will be given ten new words to learn.  They will be expected to make flashcards, finish the textbook activities, and use the words correctly in sentences each week.  They will be tested every other week; therefore, the test will consist of twenty vocabulary words.
           We will study the Old Testament in Religion, journey to ancient lands in Social Studies, become survivors and independent thinkers in our literature units, and hone our algebraic reasoning in Math.  To facilitate our study of current events, I would like each child to have a subscription to Time for Kids magazine.  Please send in $5 in the next week to cover this added expense.
           Thanks for ensuring that they have all their supplies, including their Bible, Atlas,  Planner, and calculator, and that they are supplied with a healthy snack and lunch each day!  Thanks especially, though, for sharing your kids with me!
