Discipleship

During Mass on Friday Father Labib spoke to the students about the meaning of discipleship.  He asked  several students to tell him their definitions of disciples and then asked all the students to go back to class and reflect further on the meaning of being a disciple.
Here is what the Sixth Grade thinks.
A DISCIPLE IS SOMEONE WHO:

  • helps people stay away from evil
  • follows an important person
  • follows someone else (2)
  • follows Jesus
  • is kind and pleasant and who follows Jesus
  • follows another person, for example Jesus and his 12 disciples.  Also, a disciple is someone who has been brought out of the darkness and been brought into the light.
  • follows another and would give themselves up for another
  • would give themselves up for the rights of another
  • follows a certain person around...Jesus' disciples followed Jesus around to spread His teachings.
  • takes people out of the darkness of doing bad things
  • follows God's steps and ways.  Like a student will follow the teacher and her ways
  • follows Jesus and believes in God (3)
  • follows Jesus and does what Jesus does
  • comforts others when they are hurt or depressed
  • follows God and Jesus as well as helping others.  For example, when they are injured or hungry, and getting someone to stop doing bad things.
  • follows Jesus and his teachings.  They are a friend of Jesus.
  • follows God and is a "fisher of men"
  • follows, is loyal to the leader, and was saved or helped by the leader
  • believes and follows God's footsteps or path
  • learns and teaches about Jesus
  • is a fisher of men
  • follows Jesus and is kind to all.  They also teach others to follow Jesus and about God.  For example, students follow teachers like disciples follow Jesus and His teachings.
  • follows in Jesus' steps, and is faithful to God.
  • is a follower who copies the teacher's teachings and tells other people about it.

Heroes

We are happy to be back from Thanksgiving break. Before the break we had a Thanksgiving Prayer Service presented by our 1st graders. After that they awarded the Young Hero's Award to Jack Orlando. There was smoke at the bathroom and he told the extended care supervisors about it. They went in and saw the fire and called 911. Later everyone from extended care went to the gym and waited until the firemen came. This proves that a Kindergartener can make a big change in what happens in our school. If it wasn't for him it's possible the building could've burned down.
